Understanding Employees' Willingness to Contribute to Shared Electronic Databases

Web 2.0, wikis and blogs are seen as new opportunities for bottom up knowledge management. But the willingness to contribute seems to be on the same level as in the Web 1.0 world: low - to low! A research paper from Guowei Jian and Leo W. Jeffres emphasizes that the three dimensions - utilitarian (cost-benefit analysis), normative (identification) and collaborative (collaboration) are equally important.

Based on this framework, the study identifies three key organizational processes and advances an additive model to predict employees' willingness to contribute to shared electronic databases. In sum, a holistic strategy calls for an integration of the singledimensional efforts.
